Editors / IDEs
In general, I don't evangelize and particular IDE, but i will caution all users to consider the following:
- Plugin/extension architecture and community
- Much of the usefulness of a modern editor/IDE comes from the plugins/extensions
- The more plugins/extensions already exist, the greater the chances are that something you want is already available
- The ease at which new plugins/extensions can be created increases the chances that people continue to make new plugins/extensions
- As well as the chances that you can make your own plugins/extensions
- Disk Space to install
- Mostly matters on laptops with small drives
- Memory footprint
- Some use far more ram than others
- Large file handling
For the above reasons, (at the time of writing this in 2020) any of the below editors/IDEs and plugins/extensions will serve you well.
Note:
- Any plugins listed should be available for most, if not all of the editors/IDEs listed
