Editors / IDEs

In general, I don't evangelize and particular IDE, but i will caution all users to consider the following:

  • Plugin/extension architecture and community
  • Much of the usefulness of a modern editor/IDE comes from the plugins/extensions
  • The more plugins/extensions already exist, the greater the chances are that something you want is already available
  • The ease at which new plugins/extensions can be created increases the chances that people continue to make new plugins/extensions
  • As well as the chances that you can make your own plugins/extensions
  • Disk Space to install
  • Mostly matters on laptops with small drives
  • Memory footprint
  • Some use far more ram than others
  • Large file handling

For the above reasons, (at the time of writing this in 2020) any of the below editors/IDEs and plugins/extensions will serve you well.

Note:

Any plugins listed should be available for most, if not all of the editors/IDEs listed
