Raspberry Pi

"Your tiny, dual-display, desktop computer"

Summary / Opinion At the time of writing this in 2020, the humble Raspberry Pi has come a long way.

The latest model, the Raspberry Pi 4 is more powerful than the netbooks that were all the rage.

It's often used for various home server or gadget platform, but it IS a full computer that can be used as a desktop.

I myself building a slightly steampunk all-in-one based on the pi.

Constantly Improving

Software
They're constantly making installing an operating system and making use of it easier and easier!
For full and official documentation, check: https://www.raspberrypi.org/.
For this kind of thing though, you'll probably find a combination of official docs, and https://www.youtube.com/ to be best.
Hardware
Perhaps best of all, they keep making new versions of the Raspberry Pi, and it's derivatives!
If you need a touch more power, it's on the way. If the processing and RAM are entirely sufficient for your application, you can still cheaply upgrade to a cheaper, more power efficient Raspberry Pi Zero: https://www.raspberrypi.org/products/raspberry-pi-zero/

Caution

If a Raspberry Pi is short on the horse power or architecture that you need, you're mostly out of luck.

If however, the Raspberry Pi is short on features; you may just have some work to do

Give google a search for "Pi hats & bonnets & add-ons": https://www.google.com/search?q=Pi+hats+%26+bonnets+%26+add-ons

check the same on: https://www.adafruit.com/.

You can find hardware and kits for speakers, touch displays, battery power, etc.
